Tides & Phases Of The Moon: Miya Ando in San Francisco’s K. Imperial Gallery

For Tides and Phases of the Moon, Ando speaks to the interdependency of all processes in our natural world by addressing the inextricably linked tidal currents with the moon’s force of gravity. Gravitation, one of the four fundamental interactions of nature, is a phenomenon that shapes our solar system dramatically. Ando investigates this intrinsic interconnectedness through a highly rigorous transformation of elements.

Inspired by Matsuo Basho’s Haiku: ‘Full autumn moon, To my gate comes rising, Crested tide,” Ando’s new series Tides and Phases of the Moon, gives us space for quiet reflection on the immense natural forces at work around us.
